Conference Inspires Up-and-Coming Leaders in Washington, D.C.
The University Presidential Inaugural Conference (UPIC) has bestowed a unique honor on a Seton Hall scholar by inviting him to Washington D.C. to share in the five days of special events and activities commemorating the inauguration of President-Elect Barack Obama. Outstanding university students from across the United States will participate.
Jonathan Wicker, a Seton Hall University student, majoring in Business and Sports Management in the Stilman School of Business received this honor in recognition of his outstanding academic record and leadership. Jonathan will take part in and serve as a personal witness to one of the most historic and precedent-setting inaugural ceremonies in the history of the nation.
"I appreciate this opportunity the University Presidential Inaugural Conference has given me and other young scholars," said Wicker. "I am excited and proud to witness such an important moment in our nation's history."
On January 20, 2009, Jonathan will be present for the swearing-in of the President of the United States. In addition to participating in inaugural events, he and other scholars will have the opportunity to interact with White House officials in Congress and others, attend the Black Tie Gala Inaugural Ball, explore the historic sites and monuments in Washington D.C., and engage in panel discussions and debates with national political experts and media commentators.
According to Mike Lasday, executive director of UPIC, Something that is really wonderful about so many young people gathering in Washington, D.C. for this event is that it will provide them a chance to become more familiar with and attuned to the president who will govern the United States over the next four years. We hope this will inspire the next generation of leaders.
